Choosing Wi-Fi Names and Passwords (2.4, 5, and 6 GHz)
Your gateway broadcasts separate 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz networks you can name independently. Here's how to pick names and a strong, memorable password.
Three networks, one gateway
Each band can have its own name and password, set from Settings → Network in the portal. A common approach is to name them clearly (for example "Guardian Home" and "Guardian Home 5G") so family members join the right one, or to give all bands the same name so devices roam automatically.
What makes a good password
Wi-Fi passwords can be up to 63 characters. A passphrase of four or more unrelated words is both stronger and easier to remember than a short scramble of characters — for example, "correct-horse-battery-garden" beats "Gh7!x2". Avoid anything a child could guess like birthdays or pet names, since the Wi-Fi password is also the ticket onto a filtered network.
After you change them
Changing a name or password disconnects every device on that band — each one must be rejoined once. Plan the change for a calm moment, and update the Wi-Fi settings on your kids' devices before your own so their protection resumes first. The new settings apply to the gateway within about a minute.
