Understanding and Acknowledging Alerts

Alerts are the events that genuinely deserve your attention, from VPN attempts to unknown devices. Here's what each alert type means and how to respond.

What an alert is

Not everything the gateway blocks deserves a notification — routine category blocks are just the system working. Alerts are the smaller class of events that need a human decision:

  • VPN or proxy attempt: someone tried to route around the filtering.
  • Unknown device: a new device joined the network that isn't assigned to any profile.
  • Gateway offline: the hardware lost contact with the portal.
  • Policy sync failure: the gateway couldn't apply your latest rule change.

Acknowledging and resolving

Alerts arrive on your Alerts page with a clear title, the affected device or profile, and a suggested action. Acknowledging marks that you've seen it; resolving clears it once you've acted. The flow is deliberately lightweight — most alerts take a glance.

Matching the response to the type

A VPN attempt is a conversation. An unknown device is usually an assignment task on the Devices page. A gateway-offline alert is usually your power or ISP — our offline troubleshooting article walks through it. And a sync failure typically resolves on the next check-in; if it repeats, contact support with the alert details.
