Reading the Activity Log
The activity log records blocked and flagged events across all profiles. Here's how to read it, filter it, and turn it into useful conversations.
What gets recorded
Every filtering decision the gateway makes is logged: each blocked site with the category that triggered it, the device, the profile, and the time. Alerts — like VPN attempts or a gateway going offline — appear here too. The log is the household's memory of what the rules caught.
Reading it usefully
Open Activity in the portal and start with the filters:
- By profile: each child's view is the fair starting point — behavior patterns belong to people, not households.
- By category: a run of Gambling blocks tells a different story than one stray click.
- By day: look at a full week rather than a moment; single events are noise, streaks are signal.
Turning logs into conversations
The healthiest use of the log is early and low-key. "I noticed some blocked gambling sites on your tablet — what's up?" lands very differently than a confrontation. Most blocks are curiosity or accident; the log helps you tell the difference from the pattern.
Alerts vs events
Individual blocks are routine and don't notify you by default — that's what the log is for. Alerts are the smaller set of events worth acting on, like VPN attempts and unknown devices, and those surface on your dashboard.
