Chromebooks and School Laptops

School devices arrive with their own management rules. Here's how Guardian-CORR coexists with school-managed Chromebooks and what to check.

When a school manages the device

School-issued Chromebooks and laptops are usually enrolled in the school's own device-management system, which may lock browser settings, extensions, and sometimes even DNS configuration. Your Guardian network filtering still applies to the device's traffic while it's on your home Wi-Fi — management doesn't conflict with it — but the school's rules take precedence for anything they lock down, and the school's filters may be stricter or looser than yours.

What to expect

  • On your network: the school device's traffic is filtered by your household rules like any other device.
  • Off your network: the school's management takes over entirely; the gateway has no reach on another Wi-Fi or hotspot.
  • Reporting differs: activity from a school-managed browser may also appear in the school's logs — worth knowing before a family conversation about a blocked site.

Practical setup

Assign the Chromebook to your child's profile so bedtime and category rules apply at home. If the school's management blocks the device from joining your network properly, or the school filter fights with your rules, ask us — conflicts are usually a one-setting fix. And for personal (non-school) laptops, protection is exactly like any other device: join, assign, done.
