Email Notifications for Blocked Sites
You choose which events reach your inbox, and each parent picks their own settings. Here's how notification preferences work and how to tune them.
Personal, not household
Notification preferences belong to each parent account, not the household — so one parent can get every alert while another stays email-free. Manage yours from your user profile in the portal.
What you can choose
- Access requests: the time-sensitive ones — these benefit most from email, since a request you see quickly is a request that serves its purpose.
- Alerts: VPN attempts, unknown devices, and gateway issues.
- Digests: the weekly Family+ report and other periodic summaries.
Blocked-site events themselves are deliberately not individually emailed: a busy household generates hundreds of routine blocks a week, and an inbox flooded with them trains you to ignore every notification. Those live in the activity log and weekly digest, where trends are visible without the noise.
Finding the right level
A good starting point: email for access requests, in-portal for everything else. Then adjust based on what you actually open rather than what you think you'll want.
